My paintings are inspired by the places I have lived and spent important times in my life. I have lived in Los Angeles, Morro Bay, San Francisco, London and Sacramento and have enjoyed camping all over literally my entire life. All of the places I paint have personal significance to me, mostly fond memories. I use contrast and intensity in color to express the feelings and associations I have with these places. I love that these same places are significant to others and the conversations that come from having this connection.
I earned my BA in Art from San Francisco State University and my MA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. I earned my California Single-Subject Teaching Credential in Art through CSU, Sacramento.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Each painting has a story behind it. Here are a couple of my paintings and the story of their inspiration.
This painting was inspired by a camp trip we took to Lassen National
Park. We had borrowed my Mom's canoe and paddled across Manzanita Lake
in the morning. It was beautiful and I took several photos from the
canoe, but the light was a little overcast. I took other photos on the
trip with the sun making Lassen Peak glow warm. I decided to use the
photo for the shapes values, but as usual, I had to change the colors to
evoke the experience.
I lived in Eagle Rock in Los Angeles until I was 7. Casa Bianca was
walking distance and a staple for our family and friends. When I moved
back to Los Angeles in my late 20s, my friend Don and I would regularly
go there for dinner and talk about living on the same street when we
were kids. More recently when I my sister and I were visiting and
walking around the neighborhood, I took some photos. Once again, the
light wasn't ideal, but I tried to create the excitement of dusk when
the lights first come on before it gets dark.
